The Accidental Legacy: Building Community Inside Organizations and Associations
The year was 2002 and Spencer Lueders had an idea. Having been an avid cyclist most of his life, he wondered if anyone had ever pedaled through one of his favorite cycling areas for 24 straight hours. That area was the famed 3-mile “Booty Loop” in the Myers Park neighborhood of Charlotte. He decided to give it a go and even try and do a little good in the process. A few friends were invited to join him for portions of his attempt and also donate a little money to help fight cancer – a cause that was near and dear to his heart. On that day, “24 Hours of Booty” was born. More than two decades later that idea and one man’s 24-hour cycling adventure has grown into one of the largest annual cancer fundraisers in North Carolina with over 1,200 riders bringing in over $27 million to date. That money goes to fund cancer navigation and survivorship services to thousands of patients and caregivers annually. As a keynote speaker, Spencer’s story is both powerful and motivating as he shares the secrets to building community within organizations and associations, creating a legacy of positive impact and improving personal development.
